Four selected for Ireland squad at European event

Four players with connections to the area will represent Ireland at the week-long under 18s’ EuroHockey Championships.

The Republic of Ireland-based tournament is set to run from July 24 to 30 - with games scheduled against England, Russia, Germany, the Czech Republic and Belgium.

Kerrie Burns, Alana Doyle, Kathryn Edgar and Kyle Marshall may not represent the town at club level but have links to the region.

Banbridge’s Marshall is a former Markethill High School student.

Burns attends Portadown College and Edgar, her Lurgan club colleague, is from Tandragee.

Portadown-born Doyle is currently with Ards on the club scene.

The girls’ Pool B schedule: July 24 - England v Ireland (5.45 start); July 26 - Ireland v Russia (2.30); July 27 - Ireland v Germany (12 o’clock).

The boys’ Pool A schedule: July 24 - Ireland v Germany (12 o’clock start); July 26 - Ireland v Czech Republic (4.45); July 27 - Ireland v Belgium (5.45).
