Portadown head coach Richard Hedley is hoping for an early response to his New Year wishlist when Instonians visit Chambers Park tomorrow (Saturday).
Hedley has been left frustrated at times this season with what he considers a lack of good luck and will cross his fingers for a change in fortune against the Qualifying League’s leading outfit.
Instonians come to town with nine straight wins but Hedley remains confident his players can produce a boost in the seniors’ final game of 2014.
“We lacked that bit of luck again in last weekend’s 18-12 defeat by Ballyclare and that has been a feature of this season,” said Hedley. “We have good players at this club and they work hard but luck certainly plays a part in any sport and it would be nice to get some on our side this weekend.
“With a strong team performance and slice of good fortune then anything can happen.
“We will be missing our captain, Johnny Holden.
“Our game management was an issue against Ballyclare as failure to just kick it cost us possession late on.
“We encourage a certain style of play but sometimes it is a case of making the right decision as a team.”
Play will start at 2.30 on Saturday.
