Scarva’s Olivia Mehaffey celebrated her Curtis Cup call-up in winning fashion last weekend with a successful defence of the Welsh Ladies’ Open Strokeplay title.
The Tandragee member will feature for Great Britain and Ireland against USA during June’s Ryder Cup-style ladies’ amateur event.
Back-to-back Welsh honours have left Mehaffey with two trophy triumphs and a runners-up placing from three key tournaments to date.
“It helps not having the pressure of trying to impress Curtis Cup selectors and now I can just concentrate on preparations,” said Mehaffey. “It is an amazing feeling and something which has been a big part of my focus for a long time.
“I have the Irish Women’s Close next week but must work to get the right balance between staying competitive in tournaments and preparing in the best possible way for the Curtis Cup.
“I was pleased with how I managed to close out the Welsh title and it is a nice feeling to have my name on it two years in a row.”
