Laurelvale’s Section Two season opened in style with a holiday home win against Cregagh on Monday by 78 runs.
The traditional early-season disruption created by adverse weather conditions left the Villagers playing host to Cregagh as a first fixture.
The recently-promoted Cregagh side won the toss and placed Laurelvale in to bat - with Mark Thornbury, Stuart McClelland and Philip Weir struggling to impress.
Gary Murphy’s introduction pushed Laurelvale on from 11 and he formed a promising partnership with captain David Sinton towards his 58 knock.
Sinton’s innings ended on 27 and Adam Pearson’s unbeaten appearance produced the same tally within the hosts’ 165 overall.
Michael Burns claimed a wicket in his fourth over, with Lee Edgar’s medium pace posing a threat.
Edgar finished on seven wickets for 30 during his 10-over spell with the ball and Burns’ second opportunity featured the final key success.
