Poole’s players enjoy return to the top of Winter League table at the ’Blacker

Andrew Poole and his players had cause for Winter League celebration around Carrickblacker thanks to a return to top spot.

A 13-card tally across week six provided Poole’s squad with 265.5 points in the Richardson’s Meats-sponsored Winter League.

Raymond McKeag set the standard with 23.5 points to lead the Poole scoring and, as a result, secure the section one ham prize.

Eddie Atkinson’s return of 22 provided turkey joy in section two and team captain Poole lifted the beef honour across section one on 22.5 points.

Ashley Elliott finished second on a team tally of 264.5 points.

The team captain set the standard on 24 points - with John Gilliland on 23 and Paul Coulter in the prizes.

John Cassidy’s players now sit fourth overall thanks to a third-place position on 250 points.

The remaining running order is: 4, Simpson 249.5 points; 2, Jones 245.5; 6, Walker 242; 7, Gilliland 240.5; 8, Sloan 236; 9, Mackin 222.5; 10, Grant 216.5.

In the Monday Seniors, Andy Gribben won the 14-hole Stableford on 32.

A tally of 30 points secured section prizes for David Henderson and Brian Fulton across, respectively, the low and high honours. Billy Harbinson was the top veteran on 28 points.

Sandra Sandford enjoyed a first-ever hole-in-one during the latest ladies’ Winter League play - with success arriving on the par-three fourth.

Karen Shaw proved the top individual with 23 points, followed on 21 apiece by both Heather Burnett and Wendy Beale.
