Poole’s players gain boost in the push towards top ’Blacker prize

Andrew Poole’s players moved one step closer towards Winter League glory with 283 points in week six of the Carrickblacker competition.

Edgar McReynolds, Marty Rowland and Pete Savage helped Poole’s team gain a boost in pursuit of the Gerry Brown Memorial Trophy.

Tom McFarland and his players came home second on 280.5 points to hold joint runners-up overall - with Colm McKeever, Melvin Moorehead and Will Barker the top scorers.

Stevie Grant’s men finished third with 270.5 and Nigel Gilliland’s players were fourth on 266.5.

The Winter League deadline has been extended until December 27. Tickets for the presentation are available from Michael Connolly.

Harmon Nesbitt won the Monday Seniors with 25 points towards the 10-hole sweep.

David Gordon topped the low section on 22.5, with Brian McFarland leading the high section on 22 and Eddie Atkinson the top veteran.

(two) - turkey, John Ferguson 24; ham, Will Barker 24; beef, Bill Nixon 23; voucher, Wilfie Reavie 21.5. (three) - turkey, Peter Savage 23; ham, Colm McKeever 26; beef, Marty Rowland 23; voucher, Tim Sandford 23. (four) - turkey, Melvin Moorehead 25.5; ham, Charlie Kennedy 25.5; beef, Edgar McReynolds 25.5; voucher, George Doherty 25.

In the penultimate week of the ladies’ Winter League, Edna Gribben won the individual section on 22 points - with runner-up Anne Robinson and Jean Barr each posting 21.

The team results were: 1, Jelly 93 points; 2, Bell 92; 3, Courtney 91; 4, McCaughey 86; 5, Rainey 86.
