Scarva’s Olivia Mehaffey signed off a season to remember with victory last weekend in the final tournament of her junior career.
Success in Portugal by a significant 16-shot margin left the teenager top of the Telegraph BMW Junior Championship leaderboard.
It provided the latest highlight in Mehaffey’s final year at junior level - with wins in Ireland, Scotland and Wales alongside selection for the Vagliano Trophy and Junior Solheim Cup.
Runner-up at the Ladies’ British Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship was expected to mark her final competition appearance - before an invitation from the sponsors led to the Quinta do Lago test.
Now the 17-year-old is anticipating a short break which will include a trip to America next weekend and visit to Arizona State University ahead of her scholarship start in 2016.
“It was a tough course in Portugal but a brilliant event, with so many wonderful players and people,” she said. “To win on my first appearance in the tournament is a great boost and certainly to receive a sponsors’ invite made it a nice surprise.
“That is now the end of my junior career and I have had a wonderful time, especially this past season.
“Now my focus will be on winter training before a few amateur events ahead of America from next August.
“I am looking forward to visiting some of the other girls on the Arizona team and spending time on campus.”
