Simpson’s players the pick of Winter League field at ’Blacker

Alan Simpson helped steer his team to top spot across week three of the Richardson’s Meats-sponsored Winter League at Carrickblacker.

His team’s 13-card total finished on 277.5 points, with Jason Gordon leading the individual scoring on 24.5 points to win a section one prize.

David Dunlop was on 23 points, with Matthew Lavery posting 22.5 and captain Simpson home on 22.

John Cassidy’s players secured second on 277 points - with Dave Allen out in front on his way to a section two prize. Brian Galbraith collected a voucher in section one thanks to 23.5 points, with John McIlroy next in line.

The remaining top-10 team positions were: Grant 268.5 points; Poole 265; Jones 262.5; Mackin 261; Elliott 256.5; Walker 248; Gilliland 248; Sloan 246.

As a result, the teams under Poole and Simpson sit level at the top of the overall leaderboard on 22 points, followed by Mackin’s group with 21.

Don Black picked up the low section prize on 32 points, with Tom Mallon the leading high section player thanks to 33. Bill Stewart was the pick of the veterans on 31.
