Portadown’s Colin Turkington begins the defence of his British Touring Car Championship title at Brands Hatch on Sunday.
However, it’s all change for the 33-year-old who has switched from the BMW he had huge success in over the past seven years to a Volkswagen Passat.
“Being in a new car means it is a new challenge,” said Colin.
“I’m looking forward to going back and defending my title that I fought so hard for last year.
“It would have been easy to stay in comfort zone and in the BMW but circumstance didn’t really allow that and this was an opportunity that presented itself that allowed me to be on the grid and in a competitive car.”
Turkington has raced in World Touring Cars and Scandinavian Touring Car, but says he is content in the British championship.
“I wouldn’t say I’d turn down any offers, but I’m a bit of a touring car specialist and that’s what I enjoy doing, that’s where I have had success and hopefully that will continue.”
