A touring party from England lined out on Sunday at Chambers Park against Portadown under 14s.
The squad representing Newcastle-based Tynedale held the upper hand at half-time by 19-0.
Portadown regrouped before coming out on top across the second half for a 22-19 success.
“Although Portadown won the match, rugby was the real winner,” said a Portadown spokesman. “It was a fantastic game, with new friendships and contacts established.
“Both teams served up entertaining rugby in what proved highly-competitive play.
“Tynedale scored three tries before the break but an intercept try helped to seal a narrow home win.”
The latest Wine Night at Chambers Park will run on Friday, February 27 from 8 o’clock.
Tickets cost £25 per person and the theme - in association with Robb Bros Wine Merchants - will be Italian.
