Ulster players picked for trials with youth international squad

Three players from the area have been rewarded for Ulster inter-provincial glory with international recognition.

Portadown College’s Kerrie Burns - along with Kathryn Edgar and Alana Doyle - will attend trials with the Ireland camp across November 8 and 15.

Ireland will host the under 18s’ EuroHockey Championships in Cork from July 24-30.

Doyle finished on the scoresheet in Ulster’s 5-0 defeat of South East - with the defending Inter-Provincial Series champions also on top against Munster and Connacht before honours even with the Leinster hosts.


Portadown ladies’ firsts visit Dublin tomorrow (Saturday) for the Irish Hockey Trophy test at Three Rock Rovers. A bus will depart from Edenvilla Park at 9 o’clock, with seats still available by contacting Laura on 07873312332.

The firsts finished down by 5-2 at Belfast Harlequins.

Portadown ladies’ seconds’ McConnell Shield tie resulted in defeat to Greenisland firsts over sudden-death penalty strokes.

The thirds found the net five times for the third successive week on the way to a weekend win over Holywood.

The club juniors raised £1,090 during a sponsored walk. Thanks go to McDonald’s Portadown.


Portadown men’s firsts’ midweek trip to Newry was postponed due to a breakdown in communication.

The seconds shared the honours with Instonians thirds on Saturday as Mackenzie Bennett’s brace of goals produced a 2-2 draw.
