Scarva’s Olivia Mehaffey will now turn her focus to teamwork following runners-up position on Tuesday in the Irish Women’s Close Championship.
The Tandragee Golf Club member lost out to Sarah Helly by 6&5 at Rosapenna.
Mehaffey posted the following message on Twitter after the final:
“Nothing much to give out there today in the final! Poor golf is an understatement but Can’t wait to join my team tonight for the Vagliano”.
The teenager, part of the Irish Ladies’ Golf Union-backed High Performance Panel, defeated Laura Doherty by 2&1 in the semi-final of the matchplay stages.
Her quarter-final success arrived by 5&4 against Ciara Casey - with wins also recorded over Sinead Sexton and Barbara Cooney.
Next on the schedule is representative duty for the Great Britain and Ireland team at Malone during the Vagliano Trophy today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday).
Mehaffey has also climbed the European rankings to sit second in the Junior Solheim leaderboard thanks to a semi-final place at the recent Ladies’ British Open Amateur Championship.
Mehaffey will be aiming to secure a top-six spot to qualify for September’s tournament against USA in Germany.
She can point to a 2015 trophy treble in Ireland, Scotland and Wales as evidence of her growing reputation.
Mehaffey wrapped up youth status in the Irish Girls’ Open Strokeplay Championship by securing her hat-trick within the under 18s’ event.
The next triumph arrived in Scotland at the Helen Holm Scottish Open Strokeplay Championship.
Number three in her dream run provided silverware from the visit to the Welsh Ladies’ Open Strokeplay Championship.
