Motocross: Grand Prix action at Desertmartin

Ulster Motocross season begins on Saturday at Grand Prix circuit of Desertmartin when Cookstown Club host the first round of Quadcross, Sidecarcross, U23 Open and the new Two Stroke Championships.

Alongside the championship sponsors, the ever enterprising Cookstown Club have secured sponsorship from Tobermore Concrete products to boost the prize fund.

Champion in Ballymac Hotel/Heaney Plumbing & Heating Under 23 Class, Loughbrickland’s Jason Meara has switched machinery to new Norman Watt Kawaski team, and will be in action. Big brother John, 2012 champion, is out due to shoulder surgery.

Expect some close racing in this class as riders like Ryan Adair from Dromara, Larne’s Michael McCammond, Moira’s Scott Hamilton and Glenoe’s Glenn McCormick will be out to claim the crown.

In Premier Quad Class champion David Cowan will have his work cut out holding onto the crown with youngsters like Saintfields Dean Colhoun, Martk McLernon, and Aaron Spence and seasoned competitors Justin Reid from Comber, Michael McAneny from Limavady and Newry’s Sean Goss all out for the win.

Sidecarcross Championship has been the preserve of Lisburn crew Neil Campbell and Ross Graham, but under pressure from Gary Moulds and Shane Taylor, and is showing signs of growth.

Unkowns will be Clubman Quads becausethe fast men have moved up, new riders appearing and Two Stroke Class is on an experimental basis.

Racing starts at 11am, entry £5, u14s free, track off the Desertmartin to Draperstown Road.
