Glenarm boys found watch in nest

The Coastal News section of the Larne Times reported the discovery of a wristwatch in a bird’s nest by two schoolboys in Glenarm in May 1959.

The pair who made the discovery whilst searching for birds’ nests handed the watch into the local police station.

In Carnlough, an “unofficial fox exterminator” was said to have killed two vixens and nine cubs.

The report suggested that following a fox to its den and forcing it out was a “tricky business”.

However, it was said to have been made easier with the help of a border terrier.

Meanwhile, members of the Larne Lough Wildfowlers’ Association reported that foxes could be traced by a trail of “feathers, fur and bits of birds and small animals with accompanying odour”.
