Portadown’s title ambitions suffered a setback as NIBA Division One leaders Whitehead recorded success by 80-78 and 5.5 points.
The town seniors entered the fixture aiming to close the five-point gap and also disrupt the Bangor trophy challenge.
However, Whitehead held control on three rinks by 10 ends to sit eight shots up overall. Mark Sproule’s rink kept Portadown in contention with a 16-3 advantage.
Sproule pushed the gap to 18 shots by end 15, with Aidan Corrigan’s rink up by three and the Whitehead lead down to six.
Four strong ends up to the 19th served to turn the tables and place Portadown five clear but Whitehead managed to regroup and claim success.
Portadown B struggled on the road at Annalong and, as a result, Banbridge now share top spot entering the final four games.
Portadown and Banbridge hold a 12-point lead over third in pursuit of promotion up to Division Three.
