Colin Turkington offered his British Touring Car Championship campaign a welcome kick-start on Sunday with landmark success for Subaru.

A maiden British victory arrived in the opening race of the Oulton Park date for the Portadown-born driver.

Turkington clocked up the welcome win for Silverline Subaru BMR Racing then went on to secure second spot in race two in front over the 40,000-plus trackside attendance.

The two-time British champion secured pole position thanks to qualifying progress in the Subaru Levorg then confirmed a place in the history books with the key win courtesy of a lights-to-flag triumph.

“Oulton Park was the moment we’ve all been waiting on and have worked so hard for,” said Turkington on Sunday. “The true potential of the Subaru Levorg finally came to the fore and it was a weekend none of us will forget in a hurry.

“I’m so pleased for everyone involved and I hope in some small way this repays the incredible efforts over the past five months.

“It was a special feeling to make history and deliver the maiden win for Subaru in the BTCC and in truth it hasn’t quite sunk in yet.

“I can’t imagine anyone expected such rapid progress, but within the team we knew it was only a matter of time.

“It’s even more encouraging to see the cars run so well with success ballast after race one, which clearly confirms its status as a race-winning car and future potential as a championship-winning car.

“We need to keep pushing and build on this performance.

“I definitely enjoyed the success and it’s made me hungry for more.”

The Portadown-backed Rallysport Association Summer Championship will line out on Sunday at Nutts Corner Motorsport Centre.

Over 100 drivers will tackle the ‘King Of The Corner’ event - including Portadown’s Aaron Beattie - with racing from 10.30 to 4.30.

The entry fee has been set at £10 - with a £5 concession rate for under 12s and seniors, plus family rates part of the package.
