St Joseph’s after 2 early defeats got their campaign off to winning ways with home successive home wins. The home side had a 4 shot advantage at the interval but a big win by Micky Kane’s rink sealed the game. Against Lafarge the home side found themselves 15 shots down approaching the interval but PJ McCrossan’s rink picked up a 7 to close the gap. A home defeat still looked likely until Damian Grimes rink picked up another 7 on the 6th end to allow the home side to squeeze home. It was a poor week for Moortown as they went down at Tamlaght with Chris McKnight’s rink winning 16 – 2 to help seal the win.
In Section 2, Ballinderry suffered 2 defeats at home to Lisnagleer and away to Molesworth. Thery have an inexperienced team at present and will improve as the season goes on. 1st Magherafelt went to John Bosco with a depleted team but came away with a good win. St Swithin’s Mixed picked up 20 points with wins against St John’s and RBL while the latter lost out by just a single shot against Sperrin. Molesworth had 2 good wins against Ballinderry and Sperrin to move up the table.

Hide AdThe Mid Ulster ladies travelled to play Mid Antrim in the 1st round of this year’s inter zone competition.
The team was a very different one from that selected due to the unavailability of a large number of players but the team deserve credit t for the way they went about the game coming away with a well deserved win and giving the selectors much food for thought.
In the first half the rink of M McIvor, M Paul, M Cushnahan and A McEldowney had a 9-8 win over A Agnew. The rink of D Young, O Kyle, B Kelly and J Bowman had a 10 -7 win over H Maybin while K McKenna, M Lagan, A McAteer and B Bradley went down 9-6 to A Bacon to leave Mid Ulster 1 up at the break. In the 2nd half Mid Ulster took complete control and never looked like losing with shots conceded in the last couple ends making the score closer that it should have been.
S Anderson, J Fulton, A Mawhinney and J Cochrane won 11-7 against S Smith, E Wright, G Simms, S Johnston and O Allen won 10-7 against H Lynn while B Davidson, D McHugh, M Davidson and M Carson won 11-4 against R Morrison. The ladies now travel to play Armagh in the next round.
