Newly promoted Lisnagarvey Ladies Thirds got off to a great start to the season defeating Belfast Harlequins Thirds 1-0 at Deramore.

With five new players joining the squad, the Thirds quickly settled into their usual playing style with fast attacks down both wings from Sophie Reid and Abbey McQuillan, putting Harlequins on the back foot.

Good play across the midfield broke down any breaks from Harlequins. Rebecca Mills hassled the Harlequins, releasing great passes to Claire Henderson and Nicola McIlroy to build up play.

From some superb passing by Garvey, Sophie Reid found space to use her speed to work into the circle and cross the ball for Laura Howard to score the winning goal in the first half.

In the second half, Garvey continued to look to extend the lead, but could not take advantage of any penalty corners. Abbey McQuillan was unlucky to see her shot on goal, just go wide of the post.

For the new look Thirds, this was an impressive start to the season, but will have to keep up the standard, as they meet Ards Seconds next in the league.
