Fourths off the Ravenhill for McCambley Cup Final!

The cup final beckons again for Ballmoney fourths as they booked their place in at the Kingspan Stadium next month, with an emphatic victory over Balnahinch evergreens.

Close to perfect weather conditions, saw Ballymoney out-score their Balnahinch opponents by ten tries to one, with a breath taking display of open, fast rugby.

Prior to the game, some predicted that the outcome of this semi-final clash was too close to call.

Both sides are currently challenging for top place in their respective leagues.

In front of a big home support, the game turned out to be a one sided affair, as Ballymoney breezed past their opposition with some ease.

Balnahinch could not live with the tempo this improving Ballymoney side played the game.

Sam McAuley with two, Stuart Nevin, Ryan Brace, Darren Smyth, Neal Johnston, Andy Foster, Johnny Linton, John Richmond and Aidy White all claiming scores. Ryan Brace converting seven of the trys and also adding an early penalty goal.

Team captain John Waide commented after the match.

He explained: “I am extremely pleased with our performance; we played some nice rugby today, with our finishing again clinical.

“It is great to see the team delivering a performance like that, especially in the cup semi-final. I again have to emphasize that it was a squad effort.

“Each team member played their part. We are building nicely, which is good now that we are at the business end of the season.

“I would also like to thank the support who turned out in their numbers to cheer the team on”. The man of the match award goes to Jason Taggart.

“The open side flanker’s leadership and work ethic was immense throughout the game.”

The fourths now prepare for next weekend’s top of the table league clash with Malone 5ths visiting Kilraughts Road, Kick off 2.30pm.
