Seconds keep title hopes alive with a win

Lisnagarvey Ladies Seconds travelled to Ballymoney on Saturday missing five key players but grabbed a 2-0 win to keep their title hopes alive.

Ballymoney started the stronger against a very defensive Lisnagarvey and created a number of chances, including a penalty corner that was well saved by Suzi Watson.

Sophie McNeice, Tanya Surgeon and Rachel Barnes controlled the midfield but Garvey’s first goal came from a perfect 50 metre pass by Ashley Heron to Jasmine Kirkwood on the back line. She calmly waited for the keeper to commit before slipping the ball past her for the first Garvey goal.

Lisnagarvey’s pressure was now relentless with Kirkwood’s next shot being saved by the Ballymoney keeper only to see Laura Topley score from the rebound.

Erin Mulholland who has played all her hockey on the fives this year, travelled with the seconds and played very composed, controlled hockey throughout her time on the pitch.
