The Craigavon Senior Sportsfest event attracted support from over 60 people during sessions covering archery, volleyball, dancing, water aerobics, basketball, new age kurling, boccia, swimming and walking.
Groups from the borough were represented by Young At Heart, Forever Young and Ballyoran Over Fifties. Other over 50s’ organisations signed up from the Banbridge and Armagh areas.
“The friendly competition provided groups the opportunity to take part in a wide range of enjoyable activities showcased by the Sport NI Lottery-funded Active Community coaches,” said a Craigavon Borough Council spokesperson. “Scores were accumulated and the day finished with the awards.
“Medals were donated by the Southern Health and Social Care Trust.”
Banbridge 50+ Club finished first, with Ballyoran Over Fifties the runners-up.
“We were all delighted to see the groups coming together,” said Craigavon Borough Council community sport active inclusion officer Christine Wright. “For some it was the first time they had ever tried some of the activities.”
