Stewart family shine at Schools championships
Fintan was an impressive winner of the Intermediate Boys 1500m final and younger sister Aela took the Mini Girls 800m with another local athlete Lily Toorish of St Cecelia’s claiming the silver medal in the same race.
Another talented Lumen athlete Grainne O’Hara also did brilliantly with a brace of silver medals in the Junior Girls High and Triple Jumps while in the Intermediate Girls sprints, Thornhill’s Jessica O’Hare grabbed 100m bronze and 200m silver.

Hide AdNaomi Morgan, a student at Coleraine High but a City of Derry athlete was another double medallist with a sprint Hurdles silver and a Long Jump bronze as she took time out from her exams to compete in the Senior Girls age group.
Michael Surman of the NW Regional College was the final local medallist, taking bronze in the Senior Boys Javelin and Fintan, Grainne, Jessica, Naomi and Michael have all qualified for the All Ireland’s in Tullamore on Saturday May 30th.
Several other local athletes came close to medals among them Mini Girls sprinter Leah Moore and Senior girls 3000m runner Emma McElhinney of St Cecelia’s, both finishing fourth.
In the Inter Boys 3000m St Joseph’s Odhran McKane also had a fourth place finish but his new PB of 9m 21s helped soothe his disappointment.
