Eight athletes with connections to the area were recently on show for Ulster and Northern Ireland at the Sainsbury’s School Games.
The tournament in England offered a showcase across hockey, volleyball and athletics for students from the region.
Ulster won gold and bronze within the hockey field, with local focus on the 4x100 metres relay and Northern Ireland’s volleyball court.
Markethill’s Kyle Marshall - who represents Banbridge at club level - helped Ulster pick up gold in hockey.
Kathryn Edgar and Alana Doyle from the area set aside club commitments with, respectively, Lurgan and Ards, to guide Ulster to bronze. The squad also included Kerrie Burns from Portadown College.
Hannah Vogan and her Northern Ireland team-mates finished sixth in the 4x100 metres relay field.
Northern Ireland’s volleyball team included Ryan Adair as captain, plus David Pendleton and Alex McMullan.
