Tournament gets started

St. Paul’s 1-14 Sarsfields 2-12

SARSFIELDS were trying to resume some sense of normality at the end of a difficult week and in entertainment value, this match raised the spirits a bit with the start of the Highmoss U21 Tournammet.

Sarsfields pushed into a five point lead, hitting five points in the first ten minutes, but three points on the trot saw St Paul’s come into the game.

It was nip and tuck just after half time. St Paul’s closed the gap to two points, but a goal from Niall McAlinden looked to have put the Highmoss in the driving seat.

There was some debate on the sideline as to whether Niall was going for the point, but Niall was adamant he was trying to chip the keeper.

In an exciting six or seven minutes 1-06 was scored, the goal and three points coming for St Paul’s, with Sarsfields hitting three over the bar. St Pauls hit three without reply to level the game with three minutes remaining. However, in an excellent move Thomas McAlinden gave the final pass to Paul McGeown who planted the ball in the net from a narrow angle. St Paul’s pulled it back to a point but Sarsfields held on.

Paul McGeown hit 1-06 of Sarsfields total, Darren McShane made some great saves and a few of the non-senior players had great games. Few could argue though that St Paul’s Andrew Murnan was the stand out player with a great display of fielding and point scoring.
