‘Win at Larne would leave the title in our hands’ says Wilson

If Dunbarton can beat Larne in the league tonight (Tuesday), they will be favourites for the title.

That’s the view of DJ Wilson, who would see his side go top with a win thanks to leaders Old Bleach unexpectedly falling to a one shot defeat to Willowfield on Saturday.

That will be no routine task though, as Larne are also challenging for the title, half a point ahead of Dunbarton in second spot.

“We’re in a good place but Larne will be another difficult game,” said DJ Wilson.

“They have been going really well and it won’t be easy for us. If we can get through that game unscathed, I think that will make us favourites for the title.”

Dunbarton had thought they were all but out of the title race early in the season after they lost to Old Bleach, Belmont and Ulster Transport. However, favourable results have allowed them back in and DJ doesn’t want to let it slip.

“Two of our last three games are at home, where we haven’t lost in two years, so I would expect us to win those,” he said. “All we want at this stage is to go into the final game against Ballymena with the league in our hands. Hopefully then we could see it out.

“Since the break, we have found a lot of form. Before that, we were winning games by a close margin but now in most games we have a rink or two who get big wins. Our 6.5 points at Old Bleach was a big result for us. It put us right back in the frame and we’ve followed it up with some more very good results.”
